Here is a description of the services that I offer:
I utilize different types of massage and bodywork in my practice. A typical massage session will include some or all of the methods described on this page.
TRADITIONAL SWEDISH (THERAPEUTIC) MASSAGE: This work is good for relaxation and de-stressing, and helps to improve the body's blood circulation. Swedish massage can involve rubbing, kneading, stroking and tapping the muscles and can be very gentle or vigorous, depending on your needs.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE: This is a more focused type of therapy where moderate to deep pressure is applied to the muscle tissue to help address any injury or strain you have experienced. This type of therapy can also help prevent exercise-related injuries, enhance athletic performance and encourage rehabilitation of injuries.
NEUROMUSCULAR TRIGGER POINT THERAPY: This is a variation of deep tissue massage where focused pressure is applied to specific muscle spasms (knots) and tight tendons. This is good for the elimination of pain and stress that may result from work-related repetitive strain injuries, or from long hours working at a computer. It can also give relief from tension headaches, carpel tunnel syndrome as well as rotator cuff shoulder injuries. This work can help with sports injuries, strains from exercise, postural imbalances, sleep posture pain as well as cricks in the neck.
HOT STONE THERAPY: This is very soothing for tight, sore muscles. The heated stones, combined with massage, allow more beneficial results in easing muscle tension. Heat is often recommended as a way to treat achy muscles. Applying heat to an area of the body helps increase blood flow, which helps muscles to relax and improves healing. Massaging and kneading the muscles with the warmed stones helps them to relax more quickly.
ASSISTED STRETCHING: This may also be a part of the massage as a way to increase range of motion and reduce stiffness and tension in the muscles.
AROMATHERAPY: Concentrated, fragrant liquids are extracted from different plants to create what are commonly called essential oils. Small amounts of these extracts may be mixed with the oils and lotions used during Swedish or deep tissue massage. The varied scented oils can be invigorating, refreshing and relaxing, further enhancing the massage experience.
